Cars Seized And Illegal Drivers Dealt With In Dewsbury OperationWednesday 22 October 2025 Two cars have been seized with multiple illegal motorists fined in an autumn crackdown on illegal and dangerous driving in Dewsbury. Neighbourhood policing and town centre officers in Dewsbury have pledged more operations are in the works for this winter following a targeted operation at the Asda store on Mill Street West in Dewsbury on Tuesday 21 October.
Off road bike officers from the Kirklees Nuisance Anti-Social Vehicle Team, the Dewsbury Proactive Town Centre Team and partners including the DVSA, Kirklees Taxi Licensing attended the large scale operation. During the day the team seized two uninsured cars, and fined 14 drivers for not using seatbelts and five drivers for using mobile phones while driving. Seven drivers were also fined for having illegally tinted windows, one fined for driving without due care and attention and another for having no MOT. Officers from Kirklees Council also checked 30 taxis and immediately revoked a licence to carry passengers from one driver. The operation was one of a number of ongoing road safety days of action in Kirklees in recent weeks and was run to support the District’s ongoing wider Operation Trimburg road safety operation. Trimburg resulted in more than 950 danger drivers being identified and prosecuted during its first six months of operation. Operation Trimburg itself remains focussed on targeting the #fatal5 offences identified as being the main cause of serious and fatal road incidents. West Yorkshire Police also remains committed to Vision Zero, a road safety aim established with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all in West Yorkshire. Sergeant Toni Ramsden of the Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Dangerous and illegal motoring continues to be a key concern of our communities in Dewsbury and therefore a key concern for us as their local policing team. “It is clearly disappointing that s number of drivers were caught not following what should be common sense principles of safe driving such as wearing seatbelts and not using mobile phones at the wheel. Action will be taken against those drivers were stopped and I can pledge more operations of this type are planned. “As winter weather comes as driving conditions potentially become more treacherous it is really important drivers do all they can to make sure they drive safely and their vehicles are road worthy.” She added: “I also want to thank partners who took part in the operation on Tuesday with us. Their presence is really important in helping us widen the scope of what we can achieve and making sure we check as many vehicles as possible. “We do of course also continue to urge anyone who has information about illegal and anti-social driving in Dewsbury to contact us on 101 or online at https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat
